Summary/Abstract: The subject of this paper is the examination of the conceptualization of the case as an abstract concept. The material was excerpted from The Corpus of the Modern Serbian Language. It is a corpus that contains a collection of digitized texts of various functional styles and is being worked on at the Faculty of Mathematics in Belgrade. The methodology of the paper implied an excerpt of examples in which the lexeme case was contextualized – in order to determine the original domains on the basis of which the abstract term lexicalized as a case is understood. The aim of the paper also implied the classification of one hundred selected examples according to similarity, as well as statistical analysis, in order to gain insight into the frequency of certain conceptual metaphors. Also, metaphorical expressions were analysed with regard to whether they reflect literal or figurative metaphors.
