Summary/Abstract: The basic research problem presented in the article is expressed by the question about the cause of the tension between Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and about the importance of this fact for social life. It is shown here on the example of the tension between Christianity and Judaism, limiting the analysis of the discourse to selected fragments of the New Testament. On the theoretical level, the psychoanalytical tradition as perceived by Jacques Lacan and Paul Ricoeur was referred to. In the conclusions of the study it was found that the development of monotheistic religions follows the Oedipal structure. The originators of new salvation scenarios unconsciously enter into the form of their predecessors, becoming their embodiment.
