Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to highlight the fact that blockchain technology is of particular importance for cybersecurity. As it will be shown, this technology brings both benefits from a cybersecurity perspective and a number of specific risks. In the first part (I), the author tries to clarify some of the terminological aspects related to blockchain, cryptocurrencies, cryptoassets, the consensus mechanism, digital wallets etc. In the second part (II) the author emphasizes several benefits and vulnerabilities of blockchain technology. Last but not least, in the third part (III) a series of criminal conducts related to cryptocurrencies and cryptoassets are being analyzed. In this context, several criminal acts are taken into consideration: unauthorized transfer of cryptocurrencies and cryptoassets, cloning of digital wallets, impersonation with the purpose of obtaining cryptocurrencies or other information necessary for cloning a digital wallet etc.
