Summary/Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has spawned unprecedented challenges for the business world. Cybercriminals are often more quick to adapt to the changing technological landscape than their victims. For the contemporary cybercriminal, law firms represent a very tempting target, due to their role as custodians of sensitive information for their clients and their poor cybersecurity track record. The financial damage caused by cybercrime has been on the rise and it is no coincidence that the pandemic years have seen the largest ransom payouts in the history of cybercriminality.
