Summary/Abstract: Due to historical conditions, its strategic geographic location and its significantenergy resources, particularly natural gas, oil and uranium, Uzbekistan plays animportant role in international politics. Countries wishing to expand their sphere ofinfluence on the territory of Uzbekistan are primarily Russia and China, which take anumber of measures to build their position in the internal market of the country. Theprocess of seeking to expand the sphere of influence can be observed, among others, in theenergy industry of Uzbekistan. The aim of the article is to present the Russian-Chineserivalry in the oil and gas sector, which is characterized on the one hand by the Russiandefense of its sphere of influence in the former Soviet republic, and on the other hand bythe Chinese economic expansion realized within the framework of the New Silk Roadproject. The article analyzes the geographical and energy conditions of the country,characterizes the oil and gas sector, as well as shows the activities of leading Russianand Chinese companies that have a huge impact on the functioning of the energy sectorof Uzbekistan.
