Summary/Abstract: The present article displays Mikhail Shishkin’s novel The Taking of Izmail as the text containing the key principles of a narrative and the specific internal world, which determine the author’s literary manner. The author demonstrates the synthesis of different discourse characteristics, in particular genre forms and strategies, modes of expression in the relation to “public–intimate”, “sacred–profane.” In addition, the author attracts attention to the plexus of temporary diverse realities and stylistics, multidirectional communication in grammatical tense, the ambivalence of the subjective and the objective narrative, as well as the authentic and literary, original and borrowed speech. All these forms create a synthetic narrative and determine the syncretic image of the world in the Shishkin’s novel.
