Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine the impacts of applications that use blockchain-based electronic voting systems on local participation. The study is structured in this framework to contain three sections. The conceptual framework of the study is presented in the first section. The major concepts (participation, digitization, blockchain, and local governments, among others) to be used in the contents of the study are addressed. The second chapter provides a brief overview of blockchain technology, as well as its applications and historical evolution. The third section discussed what blockchain technology was, as well as its attributes and potential benefits to local participation. The main finding obtained in this study shows that the implementation of blockchain-based voting systems will increase local participation.
