What are the origins of the neologism chajzerować? Deriving verbs from anthroponyms and the latest tendencies in terms of appellativisation of proper names in Polish

Summary/Abstract: The article concentrates on deriving common words from proper names. Its principal aim is to present the most recently created anthroponymic derivatives, popular among the social media users in 2020. The neologisms in question are analyzed against the backdrop of the latest tendencies concerning the appellativisation of proper names in Polish, that is processes productive at the turn of the last century, as well as the phenomena observable over the last few years. They include: modification of the semantic features of suffixes forming deonymic derivatives, more frequent usage of given names as bases for common words and the growing popularity of deriving verbs from proper nouns. The lexemes januszować, chajzerować, górniakować and kukizować are the indicators of establishing a new verbal model that consists of an anthroponym and the affix -ować. The lexical material under study shows how commonly Polish speakers use analogy in the word formation process and how creative they are in terms of coining new expressions, which is also discussed in the paper.
