Summary/Abstract: This article aims at showing the role of present participle in legal texts, specifically in legislative discourse. It examines the functions of present participle in French judgements, in comparison with their parallel versions written in Italian. The purpose of the article is to explain why this verbal form is so frequently used in French and Italian legal texts.
