Summary/Abstract: Copy certificates of civil registry records are a specific type of documents, whose translation takes a special place in certified translators’ everyday work. Translators are faced with a series of rather important problems. The aim of this paper is to analyse the most serious of those problems. The author attempts the analysis by dividing the problems into those resulting from the differences between the French and the Polish legal systems and the ones connected with the language as such, and which can actually be divided into four groups of difficulties arising from terminology, morphosyntax, stylistics and orthography.
