Resurrection and Hope as the Content of the Chants of Proprium missae pro defunctis and Ordo Exsequiarum after the Second Vatican Council in the Polish Language

Summary/Abstract: The present article examines the theme of chant used during the funeral service. First, thehistory of the burial of the dead in the first civilizations is presented. Next, the methodof burying the dead and the course of the funeral liturgy in Christianity are shown. The largepart of historical description includes analysis of the music that accompanied the deceasedon the last journey. Subsequently, using the method of text analysis, the author proveda deficiency of liturgical songs that would contain the message of resurrection and hope.
