The Paratelic Reading and the Age of the Readers

Summary/Abstract: There are two different kinds of reading: there’s the telic reading, done because of an external necessity, and there’s the paratelic reading, which is determined by internal necessity. There are also five categories of readers, according to their age. The paper shows the various needs and desires that each age has, focusing on the reading and what each type expects from or searches in it. It also shows how can the libraries fulfill the needs and expecations of each category and, in the end, it gives examples of activities that were caried out by the Târgu-Mureş Public Library in Chişinău and how they were especially designed for each age group.
