Summary/Abstract: Though its social, political, economic, phsicological, cultural dimensions vary from eras and territories, the term of war is as old as human history. That the war has some dimensions which derive from visible cases of world life and also some religious motives which contain the next world life, is one of the main reasons of its duration throughout history. That the most important of these motives are holy scripts including Qur’ān and Old Testament which can be read from many different aspects, makes evaluating these scripts in the context of war, possible and even necessary. In this article expressions about war in Qur’ān and Old Testament texts were collected and compared in order to determine common and different points in them, because these texts affect human life directly in point of war. From the results reached after this comparison, it is aimed to gain some clues about war perception, which the holy scripts of Islam and Judaism put into their own supporters’ minds. When evaluating expressions about war in two main texts, we took into consideration the Arabic text of Qur’ān, the oldest English version of Old Testament we reached and its Turkish translation.
