Summary/Abstract: The pedagogical discourse on alternative education is unusually wide since the crisis in the education system has always been the engine of the search for new solutions. Modern education is betting on innovation, as well as facing new challenges. Alternative schools began to emerge as a protest against the traditional school, and in particular, its signs as authoritarianism, sketchiness, as well as the transfer of ready knowledge to students. As a result of criticism, alternative schools of various types arose, for example, free schools, street academies, open classes, schools without walls. The article presents the history of the emergence of alternative education in Ukraine, discloses the content of alternative schools, identifies priority areas for the development of alternative pedagogical systems using author schools as an example, the experience of their organization, and identifies their advantages and disadvantages. The author describes a system of oriented learning in the author’s comprehensive school of N. Guzyk, which is an example of alternative education in Ukraine. Alternative education aims to overcome the fear of school and the creation of favorable conditions for the development of students’ talents.
