Summary/Abstract: One of the important issues about international borders is the different roles and functions of borders. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the emergence of the Turkmenistan in Central Asia, a new chapter emerged in Iran’s relations with its northeastern. In general, the relationship with Turkmenistan has been and is important for Iran in several ways; one of the most important reasons is that Turkmenistan is the only Muslim republic in Central Asia that borders Iran on land and navy border. But the two countries, given their border conditions, have challenges that affect relations between the two countries.
