Summary/Abstract: Transportation system is an organized whole of all transport branches working with infrastructure in a specific area. The transport system consists of: land transport, water transport and air transport. The purpose of this article is to prove how defined transport system functions, conditions their market share and development possibilities. Particular attention was given to the combined transport due to the biggest possibilities to develop, specificly nowadays. As an example, the operation of a major intermodal carrier has been approximated based on the XYZ company.
