YURII VYNNYCHUK’S SHORT STORY ГИ-ГИ-И!: PERCEPTION OF THE WORK THROUGH THE PRISM OF THE SENSES

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyse the reception of the short story Ги-ги-и! by thecontemporary Ukrainian writer Yurii Vynnychuk through the prism of the senses. It investigates howthe artistic word becomes the link between the reader and their senses, how it shapes visual, auditory,olfactory, gustatory, and tactile associations in the consciousness of the reader. The study shows howthe writer, using an aesthetic of ugliness that affects the reader’s subconscious and impacts theirsenses, demonstrates the dark side of life. The paper also points to Vynnychuk’s use of the monstrosityaesthetic. The study uses a hermeneutic research method.
