Summary/Abstract: A long time has passed since the publication of the second edition of a thorough small encyclopedia Ukrainian Cossacks (Ukrainian Cossacks: a small encyclopedia / Ker. avt. collection. FG Turchenko. K .: Genesis, 2006. 672 p.) And there was a scientific and informational need for a new conceptually and informatively complete encyclopedic edition, suitable to meet the professional needs of historians, as well as the general readership, which is interested in Cossack antiquity and its echo in the subsequent state, military and socio-cultural history of Ukraine.
