Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the evolution of bilateral relations between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine in the period 1991-2009 on several dimensions: political, economic, and territorial. The already established relations between the two states since gaining their independence, after the disintegration of the Soviet Union, represent a foundation for good cooperation today. The evolution of the Moldovan-Ukrainian bilateral relations has been marked by several problems, some inherited from the Soviet period, others influenced by the geostrategic interests in the area, such as the Transnistrian problem. Although the relations between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine currently have more than 200 bilateral treaties as their legal basis, which cover a wide range of issues between states, we cannot say that compromise and understanding have been found on all subjects. There is a number of unresolved concerns that remain on the common agenda of both states today.
