Summary/Abstract: This paper attempts to demonstrate that, in the current state of the development of European Union law and against the background of the concept of global constitutionalism (including global environmental constitutionalism and challenges related to climate change), environmental protection, understood as protecting natural heritage, counteracting the irreversible effects of industrialization, and the condition of existence of present and future generations, may be understood as a component of the „constitutional core” of the European Union.
