AN OVERVIEW OF THE TRADITIONAL FOLK JEWELRY OF KOSOVO AND METOHIJA

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the rich and remarkably important Collection of Ethnographic Material Jewelry of the Museum of Priština, focusing on some examples of jewelry that are associated with the late seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in terms of their date of creation and use and represent the continuation of the long tradition of jewelry making in Kosovo and Metohija. Based on hereto published results and a comparison with archeological material in museum collections, the paper highlights the endurance of some types of medieval jewelry in the corpus of traditional national jewelry, while attempting to retrace their continuity and transformations as far as possible.
