Summary/Abstract: The food system became one of the most important concern of the 21st century both in terms of food security and sustainability. The complex dynamics and unpredictability in food industry have a significant impact especially on emerging economies in which income growth and demographic changes are more pronounced and the focused in food system management is more on economic aspects rather than on sustainability. Especially in developing countries the price of food doesn’t reflect the environmental and social costs it has in a global perspective, allowing a displacement of environmental costs of food production through trade from high-income to low-income countries. A secondary data analysis was performed to identify the main changes and how emerging countries adapted their food system management. Romania and Poland were the subject of the investigation, considering their important evolution and the central role of food industry in their case.
