Summary/Abstract: It is well-known today that Oradea represented in the past some kind of a refuge or a shelter for Gheorghe Şincai, whose life was but a series of misfortunes and difficult moments. His connections with this town were cultural or professional; we may speak about spiritual connections. Oradea always attracted young scholars because of its cultural development at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. But Şincai became more attracted to it after 1794, not because of its professional possibilities, but because of his private conflict with the bishop Bob. He will find there a good friend and protector - the bishop Ignatie Darabant. The second period of his staying at Oradea began in 1803 when he finished the education of young nobles Wass. He chose Oradea again because, since Blaj was declining, it became one of the most important Romanian cultural and political centers. Şincai will come back at Oradea for an year, starting with 1811, where he will finish his masterpiece - Hronica românilor…- and will try to publish it. His last staying at Oradea, took place in the autumn 1812. He will ask once again for accomodation at Darabant’ s house in change of a copy from Hronica românilor… In fact, he will put his manuscript in Samuil Vulcan’ s custody, at Oradea and, as a reward, Bihor County Library is today called after his name.
