Summary/Abstract: As part of Kikinda municipality is the village of Banatsko Veliko Selo. The village was formed by colonists in the 18th century. Initially three small villages were formed, Saint Hubert, Soltur and Charleville. During the Theresian colonization, those places were inhabited by the Germans and the French, while the French were Germanized over time. The settlements were built by plans, by order of the Viennese court, structured like fields on a chessboard with streets intersecting at right angles. Soltur and Charleville had a rectangular shape, while Sankt Hubert had a square shape. Separate villages existed until the mid-20th century. Colonist from Bosnia and Herzegovina came after World War II, although the demographics of the village completely changed. In 1947, Saint Hubert, Soltur and Charleville merged into Banatsko Veliko Selo. In this way the village received an atypical form for Vojvodina landscapes.
