Heroic Epics and Social Structure: A Cross-Cultural Approach

Summary/Abstract: This paper concerns the dissemination of oral epic poetry in traditions with different social institutions. In the paper, this dissemination is compared with distribution of social institutions as they are presented in George Murdock’s Atlas of World Cultures. The main goal is to establish correlations between structure of folk tradition and social structures.
