Summary/Abstract: The fanariots have completely influenced the XVIIIth century, according to their main objective: the community welfare. They tried to find new solutions and to apply new rules in order to succeed in their attempts, although sometimes their actions were quite ambiguous. There are some important aspects the fanariots tried to emphasize, such as charity and free elementary education for the impoverished noblemen. They considered education as an adequate way of maintaining social equilibrium and getting away from poverty. Through their attitude and decisions, the fanariots from the Romanian Countries became some kind of a link between Romanian thought and the European one.
