Summary/Abstract: The contemporary rituals with masks are, of course, a celebration with which rhythm is given to the life and time of the community. The difference between the traditional and contemporary rituals is on the level of celebration. Even though they contain traces of ancient magic, in time they become a ritualistic practice with an open meaning. In contemporary conditions, the faith in their magical power is naturally gone, and other functions, like the ones of entertainment and aesthetics get stronger. But, in the essence of these performances there is a strengthening of the cohesion and identity within the community.
