Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the Croatian adverb jednom. It has two main meanings: the older one 'once, once time' and the younger 'once upon a time, at some time'. Some dictionaries and handbooks do not recognize the first one, but both meanings are broadly used in literature and other texts. The adverb is a petrified instrumental form of jedan 'one, some'.
