Summary/Abstract: This article tries to contribute to the theoretical approaches towards identities, and their reflection, analyzed in the context of the current situation in the Balkans and in Republic of Macedonian. The issue of the complexity and the multilayer nature of the ethnic, national and cultural identity is conditioned above all by historical events, cultural models, but also by social circumstances at the local, as well as at the global level. If one takes into account the social and political life, the question of the feeling of belonging towards a certain ethnic/national/cultural community becomes really complex. At the global level, the search for elements of self-identification in the sense of ethnic/national identity, versus the attempts for identification and affinity towards the new European identity, is an issue of the modern national identity. On the other hand, it is almost impossible to put aside the influences of globalization (especially of cultural globalization). How do identities manifest themselves in contemporary Macedonian society, the question of the so called "traditional identity", self-identification, the relations I/we and he/others, reflection of the distant or recent historical past of Macedonians and the Macedonian cultural and historical space of identification (in a Balkan context), is a try to give a contribution towards the contemporary events related to the issues of the possible, currently existing identities of Macedonians.
