Summary/Abstract: Macedonian literature of the first half of XX th century is regarded as the most important essential part of building the national identity. This process is divided into three phases: 1880-1910-ies, the interwar period, the period of War and Revolution. Each of them has left its imprint on the concept, and forwarded a new type of the character. During the entire period of struggle for recognition the national identity for the right to use mother tongue in official field, the artistic literature was created in the manner of romanticism, realism, expressionism ana revolutionary romanticism. At the same time, the constant organic connection of Macedonian literature and folklore is stated. The problem of literature formation in the national language unites all the phases. This right of Macedonian writers have fully implemented only after the 1945.
