Summary/Abstract: Education is the basis of a society driving to the future and knowledge becomes the main component of economic and social development. By the undertaken research, we explain the concept of performance measurement, present the model of measuring the performance of higher education entities within the public sector, identify the limits and propose alternatives contributing to the assessment of their real performance. The research takes into consideration a synthesis of the ideas on this topic published into the professional literature and the regulations issued by the national regulators in this domain.
