Summary/Abstract: This article uses constructivist theories in international relations to propose a policy recommendation to the Government of the Republic of Macedonia on how to preserve the Macedonian identity in view of the “name issue” between Greece and Macedonia. Using the theoretical analyses on international norms, international advocacy networks, and lobbying of some of the most prominent authors in the constructivist school of thought (including Martha Finnemore, Kathryn Sikkink, Margaret Keck, and Ann Florini), the author proposes concrete steps to the Macedonian Government on the very relevant topic regarding the constitutional name of the Republic of Macedonia. As such, by putting theory into practice, this article offers a unique way for the relatively new constructivist school of thought to test its theories one of the most heated and significant topics in present-day international relations. If the proposals are indeed taken up by the Macedonian Government, the findings that may be extracted several years down the road may provide instrumental empirical evidence on which to continue to build the constructivist theory in international relations. In addition, they may lead to the resolution of one of the most painful issues for the Macedonian people.
