Summary/Abstract: This article attempts to analyze the brutalization of Polish fantasy literature using cultural literary theory. This article shows cultural contexts that influence the brutalization of Polish fantasy literature and the worlds it creates: isolation from English literature influences the beginnings, especially the taboo of natural death in the public space, resulting in very graphic, almost pornographic images, and the cultural aspect of literary descriptions of bodies experiencing violence. Emphasizing the relationship between literature and its non-literary contexts leads to the conclusion that Polish fantasy literature in part took over some functions of horror works, which are marginalized in Polish culture.
