Summary/Abstract: The 1934 essay deals with the nature of the essay as a literary form. The author insists that the specific individual and the national context makes it hard to frame a uniform definition of the essay in general. There are not any particular formal standards of an essay and it makes it closer to art than science or philosophy. The essay is the middle ground between philosophy and literature. Essayism is a form of imagery thinking.
