Summary/Abstract: Climate changes are part of our reality in the modern conditions of living and doing business. The frequency and severity of catastrophic events, such as floods, tsunamis, fires, or hurricanes that jeopardize individuals, economy, and the society as a whole, are the result of climate changes. The field most directly influenced by climate change impacts is that of insurance, because insurance and reinsurance companies bear heavy consequences, due to the increased need for indemnification for losses following catastrophic events caused by climate changes. This article deals with the issues of climate changes, their causes and consequences and, more specifically, their effects on insurance and reinsurance companies. The conclusion points to some recommended activities that should be undertaken by insurance and reinsurance companies to ensure their sustainable protection from the negative consequences of climate changes.
