Summary/Abstract: The subject study provides an overview and analysis of the most important legal instruments adopted under the auspices of European regional organizations - the Council of Europe and the European Union. These instruments essentially complement the international legal instruments adopted under the auspices of the United Nations, aimed at contributing to the universal fight against terrorism as an international crime posing a threat to international peace and security. In this sense, European countries are obliged to cooperate in taking preventive and prohibitive measures against terrorism. Given that there are general standards in assisting in the detection, extradition, prosecution and punishment of perpetrators of terrorist acts, Serbia, as a candidate country for the EU membership, is obliged to harmonize its internal legislation with the European legal frameworks for suppressing international terrorism. Serbia through this process shows its ability to engage in a dialogue with all member states of the European Union on the implementation of the objectives of the Common Foreign and Security Policy.
