Summary/Abstract: The increasing use of the learning management systems (LMS) within the universities, significantly changes the learning experience for both teachers and students. In higher education and beyond, these systems have become an intensively used resource in the field of the educational services. The paper identifies a number of LMSs for the specific needs of a university. At the beginning, the different approaches to LMS as a modern way of teaching and their impact on users compared to the traditional teaching methods are presented. Teachers seek to prepare their course notes effectively in the shortest possible time. Students are encouraged to devote more time to the individual study. On the other hand, the educational institutions seek to provide the maximum level of education with a minimum level of investment. The advantages and disadvantages of the most used learning management systems used within the universities are identified. An LMS solution often used both in Romania and worldwide by many higher education institutes is Moodle, a learning platform. In order to be able to identify the right LMS solutions, the beneficiaries have at their disposal a series of software comparison platforms, such as: Capterra and G2. A comparative analysis of Moodle users’ perceptions was performed based on the existing reviews on the Capterra and G2 platforms, in order to see whether or not these perceptions are in agreement with the information presented on the internet regarding the usefulness of Moodle. The paper is intended to be a first step in a broader research aimed at the applicability of this analysis among the Romanian universities.
