Summary/Abstract: The article presents reports of the Polish press on the elections (from the election campaign to post-election comments) in the curia of rural communes to the Vienna State Council in 1879 and the religious split in the Polish national movement that took place during the election campaign as a result of the disagreement between the movement’s factions regarding the planned candidacy. In a broader context, apart from presenting the attitude of the Polish press to the elections and the conflict within the Polish party, the article also shows the degree of interest and recognition of the press from various parts of Poland in the subject of the political situation in Cieszyn Silesia. The main purpose of the article was to analyze the sources. From this analysis, a narrative emerged about the course of the election campaign, elections and the split in the Polish national movement.
