Librarians and Readers during the XVIII-th and XIX-th Centuries

Summary/Abstract: Public libraries have a well-established role in the community, their mission, tasks and goals started to be written down long time ago. Nevertheless, the most important part is played by the librarian, the one that implements and brings it all to life.The way in which the librarian is seen reflects the image of the library as an institution. The concern for the professional training and also the way the librarian acts in public is an old one. There are many notes in the past centuries` press reflecting the role the librarian had in the community, the respect received from the readers, as well as regarding the librarian`s responsibilities, and also his status, which changed in time, becoming more and more complex.
