Exploring Areas of Improvement in IT Innovation Management in the Saudi Healthcare sector: Using COBIT 2019

Summary/Abstract: Many innovations have emerged in healthcare because of technological advancements in the sector. All these new and innovative technologies require good management practice within Saudi healthcare organizations. This paper discusses and investigates the current state of IT innovation management in the Saudi healthcare sector, focusing on potential areas for improvement using the COBIT 2019 framework. Nine staff from different Saudi healthcare organizations participated by answering interview questions that have been investigated and analyzed. Findings show initiatives steps were done toward innovation by the organizations. Even though not all healthcare organizations are at the same level, and they still need to do further works on innovation management. This is because they need to define clear and unified innovation processes that start from idea gathering until implementation closing. In addition to improving the innovation process by activating good documentation, enhancing human recourses, sufficient funding, and developing R&D.
