Summary/Abstract: This paper aims at making a concise and objective presentation, from historical and legal perspective, of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights (EUCFR) which is a real mechanism for protecting human rights in the European space. It also aims at developing a brief analysis of a direct benefit of this document, namely the European citizenship. Thus, according to the Charter, European citizenship is strengthened and becomes more coherent arising from the recognition of rights, the equality of all citizens and their non-discrimination, the functioning of the Union on the principle of representative democracy and from ensuring dialogue and transparency between the EU institutions and citizens.
