Summary/Abstract: The subject of the present research is the semantics of the German verb werden from a lexical and grammatical perspective; and at the same time the functional equivalents of the given lexeme in the Russian language are presented. It is known that werden is one of the auxiliary verbs in modern German; which determines its frequent use; but it is no less used in its function as a full verb. In addition to the diachronic discussion; which is necessary for a fuller understanding of the verb in question; attention is paid to the peculiarities of the formation and explication of the meanings of the passive voice; future tense; subjunctive; and others.
