Summary/Abstract: The whole spectrum of social media is large. From governments to hospitals, banks or individuals, social media has become a common interest for the whole world. Clearly, all types of businesses are impacted by these platforms too. While large companies adopt more facile Web 2.0 tools in their global strategy, SMEs are still emerging. By this paper we aim to briefly depict the social media landscape, focusing on social networking sites, followed by an overview of the current situation in Europe in terms of social networks usage, a few facts and particular recommendations for Romania, plus an overall conclusion aiming to encourage SMEs to take advantage of the multitude of leverages provided by social networking sites.
