Summary/Abstract: Twenty three years have elapsed since the collapse of the communist regime after the December 1989 Revolution. A new era has started for Romania, for its institutions and religious confessions: an era of liberty, democracy and fundamental social changes. During these years many have taken place regarding the Communist regime and its relationship with the Romanian Orthodox Church. Our work is based on documents about political police of the communist regime, published by researchers who studied the Archive of the National Council for Studying the Securitate Archives (ACNSAS), where the term Securitate designates the communist state police. The matter under discussion is divided into three chapters: Church Hierarchy and the communist regime; The Clergy and theology professors – martyrdom and resistance; Monasteries, monks and nuns under the terror. We hope that our research will be seen as an homage to all those who confessed their faith in Christ, our Lord, and defended His Orthodox Church by their sacrifice.
