Summary/Abstract: An e-learning system has been implemented for a number of years inside a computer-aided technological design laboratory from the Technical University of Iasi. Over the years many aspects arose using such a system. They were both technical and human related. Results offered a different perspective from the one expected in terms of effectiveness, software performance, skills and knowledge. It produced such an impact on the laboratory related activity that we were able to pinpoint some of the pros and cons after the implementation. The paper presents an inside view from within a higher educational technical department which operates with different software solutions. We believe that it may develop into as a steady base study for future researchers or teachers who would like in the near future to implement also such a learning system. It also contains solutions to the problems encountered during and after implementation of the e-learning system as well as its effective use. Those can prove very helpful especially in case of “not to do” issues because even from early implementation a certain roadmap would come to great use. Student feedbacks, networking and plagiarism issues are among the concerned problems which do not have a specific solution and must be tackled individually. Working online and offline rises a vast array of technical problems. The offline is used primarily for gaining technical computer related design skills. The results are then measured by means of quizzes and other forms of testing. A significant part is played by the e-learning system’s forum which allows teachers to actively interact with students and answer specific problems encountered by those. Tests however must be cycled on regular basis with new content added each time because students tend to save them offline for later use.
