Heredity in the works of Vjenceslav Novak

Summary/Abstract: We read the works of Vjenceslav Novak as a child during primary school education, as strong realistic prose during high school education, and we return to him as a mature person with many life experiences. Why do we return to that source of our national literature? Youth brings certain judgments and is often burdened with suggestions or their as yet undeveloped literary notions. Many read works by various authors of different views and attitudes, questions and answers "about the purpose of art, literature", works shaped in different forms, perspectives and expressive desires, often require new readings and re-examinations. Universal universal problems and themes, which in some way: heritage, conditioning, continuity, environmental determination, some writers exclude to the periphery of literary preoccupation, as well as themes contained in Novak's works and his thesis and the principle that we may the environment from which all that is inherited in us and around us, has largely shaped us as a person - a character in fiction, a literary work. Decades ago, this notion caused discomfort, and heredity as a limitation, a conservative attitude, because aspirations and thoughts grabbed towards individualism, belonging to an imaginary freedom of "free people", and heredity would be a weight. Only in the mature years, repeated readings, open the suppressed feelings of repressed cognition without fear, without prejudice, confidently long-term reflection. Scientific facts from different disciplines bring us back "home" and tell parts of the text of the novel by Tito Dorčić, happy that you have returned to the issue, sad that everything has not happened before. Heredity is emphasized in the works of Vjenceslav Novak, but a large number of writers do not have it in the foreground, but it exists. "We are Croats" - says Matoš, and indirectly in his mature years in Miroslav Krleža's novel Zastava, many fragments can serve as an example of heredity. This paper will prove that literature - the art of words, words as a transmitter of many knowledge, beliefs, orally or in writing, preserves heritage, warns of reality and is central to world science, continuity of survival, a strong need for a story we want with someone special and essentially divided, by which we wish to warn and stage the possibilities of social and moral decline. We can consciously devalue the value of heritage and belonging to the community, but no matter how hard we try, we cannot deny it meaning as a series of determinants of our personality, and this often intense effort brings us back to sources that heal us, where we are better, stronger, where we are recognized. . A century of Novak's novels, science confirms the knowledge and attitudes of this music professor, a sensitive individual who leaned his ear, listened to any society and a specific person, understood the essence of survival, tried to help with literature. We return to his works, enriched by life experiences and new inspiration for analytical judgments.
