Summary/Abstract: The article deals with teaching Spanish as foreign language at the University of Economics in Bratislava with regard to the possibility of using Spanish in work. The aim is to identify the labour market requirements in Slovakia and to find out whether Spanish teaching and students’ knowledge correspond to market requirements. On the basis of a questionnaire survey of enterprises we identified the language competencies required by companies in Slovakia. We also carried out a similar study with the university students to identify students’ needs regarding teaching Spanish as foreign language and to identify the importance of speaking Spanish as well as the topics covered. Our ambition is to improve the relationship between teaching content and labour market demand in order to contribute to increasing employability with Spanish language knowledge.
