Summary/Abstract: The process of integration and federalisation in a Europe beaten by wars and a long queue of theoretical debates regarding the path to follow known generically as the “European Idea” represented the only solution to exit the crisis generated by the Second World War, the integration representing a process of adopting some common values and leadership, a confederation of multi-ethnical states that can cover great geographical regions. Federalism is founded on European culture, on its profound unity and its rich diversity, as well as its common values, democratic principles and human rights. In many different ways, it lends itself to particular forms of organization and the means of functioning of democratic societies.
