Summary/Abstract: The article presents the image of Stefan Bogoridi (1775–1859), which Christine M. Philliou builds in monograph “Biography of an Empire. Governing Ottomans in an Age of Revolution”. A little-known study in Bulgarian historiography. The sources used by the author are considered, as well as the theses, protected by her about the personality of the Bulgarian, who has risen to the rank of High Turkish Dignitary. In the article is paid special attention to discovered by Philliou coded documents written by Bogoridi in the early 1850s.
