Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the analysis of social outcomes in capitalism and milestones for a more just social order in Antanas Maceina’s book “Social Justice”. Maceina formulates them referring to pope Leon XIII encyclical “Rerum novarum” and pope Pius XI encyclical “Quadragesimo anno”. While approaching capitalism as a social disease, Maceina indicates cause, symptoms and possible ways of treatment. Referring to the (especially popular in the interwar period) epistemology of human sciences, established in the frames of life philosophy, the cause of the disease is considered to be the capitalist spirit that emerged in European culture because of Aristotle’s philosophy predomination. According to Maceina, the disease could be cured by restoring the Christian concepts of property and work in society. The solution of the social problem is related to the restoration of the Christian world outlook, to formulating human spiritual orientation, and not to the reform of a state structure or regime. Herein he refers to the usual epistemology of human sciences that spiritual phenomena predetermine the material ones and not vice versa; in other words, spiritual phenomena are the cause that formulates the economic part of culture.
